LAS VEGAS — Parents who were devastated to find their son’s decor piece in a trash can after he died say they are shocked to see the item has now been found by the coroner.
The family of the 14-year-old boy found in the trash on Friday, April 11, told the Associated Press that their son, Brandon, was a good kid who loved to play outside and was trying to make friends with kids.
Brandon, a student at Las Vegas Central High School, died after he fell into a garbage can and broke his neck while playing with a friend, the family told the AP.
The school district told the news service it had contacted the coroner and said that it will investigate.
But in an e-mail to the AP, a spokeswoman for the Las Vegas County Coroner’s Office said that the cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.
The cause of Brandon’s death has not yet been determined.
Brandon had been missing since April 5 and was last seen at his family’s home.
His mother told the Las Angeles Times that she didn’t know how Brandon got there or where he went.
The teen’s father said he was working on his own construction project in the neighborhood, but that he didn’t have much time to spend with Brandon because he was busy with other projects.
“We know we’re grieving,” the father, Robert Johnson, told KTNV-TV.
“I feel like we’re living through something.
It’s hard to imagine.”
